The State of CoWorking

Tuesday, February 2, 2010 -- 8:00am - 11:00am

Citizen Space

425 2nd Street
San Francisco, CA

What started out as a DIY movement of people sharing their living rooms, squatting in underutilized office spaces and gathering in coffee shops has evolved - in a sense, the concept has reached adolescence. The idea of CoWorking at its heart is the same today as it ever was, independents and small companies can share resources, be more efficient, be more productive and find support from their community of peers. At the same time, it has had to become a serious business in order to sustain itself. Meanwhile, CoWorking has become a global phenomenon, a new way to look at executive office suites and a way for global digital nomads to find a friendly place to work as they travel and do business.

So what is the current state of CoWorking?

If you are a current or former co-worker, an independent professional, a freelancer or just someone interested in the changing nature of collaboration and community, please join us as we discuss where we have been, whats happening today and where are we headed. Via the magic of VOIP, we will host a video conference between Citizen Space in San Francisco, CA and La Cantine in Paris, France where the people who know what's happening discuss the promise and the perils of this important movement as it becomes an industry.

We will have brief presentations from the leaders of La Cantine, Citizen Space, pariSoma and other CoWorking spaces followed by a group discussion amongst participants in both cities as we explore the state of CoWorking from a global and local perspective.

This event is a part of Social Media Week being organized by Social Media Club in San Francisco, supported by Social Media Club Paris. Coffee and muffins will be served in San Francisco. Wine will be served in Paris. (there is a 9 hour time difference).
